I've been in a huge Pixies mode ever since the announcement of their reunion and all the hype about the band, I saw them at Coachella and Austin City Limits this year, they're the real deal, if you get a chance to see them, please do (although their upcoming tour is sold out in most if not all markets). They transformed Alternative rock by their use of the "Quiet verse -> LOUD chorus". Nirvana made the approach common the same year that Pixies broke up. Anyways, this is a good mix to get you into their music if you're not familiar. I'm sure you've heard some of the songs in movies before and from their records, Death to the Pixies, Surfer Rosa and Trompe Le Monde. - G$

Gov't Mule - Deja Voodoo was just released by ATO Records. The good ol' boys in Gov't Mule still crank up the southern-steeped boogie rock like it was 1972. Not that this roots-ripping rocker is a total throwback to the Allmans -- the more poignant lyrics do celebrate the here and now -- but it's just good to know that there's still a band keeping the bellbottom blues alive and kicking. - Eric S.

Ultimate Yes is a brand new 2004-era Yes EP featuring five mostly acoustic jams, including a jazzed-up version of "Roundabout." Hardcore fans will be thrilled, but what everyone needs to hear is the awesome interpretation of Dvorak's "New World Symphony" -- a sludgy, super-heavy piece that proves Yes are still very much on their game. If you like Yes, definitely read Dennis Cook's great JamBase Interview with Jon Anderson. It's long, so stream the YesYears box set while you read. Love that version of "Every Little Thing". Enjoy.
